In an effort to decrease vehicle usage and promote cleaner air, Salt Lake City is launching a program to help residents purchase an electric bike, also known as an e-bike.

The incentive program would give recipients a voucher ranging from $300 to $1,300 to purchase an e-bike. The amount depends on the bike type, e-commuter or e-cargo, and the applicant's income qualifications.

Applicants are required to show proof of an address within the city limits; a utility bill, credit card statement, or mortgage statement would fulfill this requirement. Applicants will also be asked to provide income information. You must be 18 years old or older to apply. You may only apply once per individual or twice per household; any additional applications will be deleted.

Recipients will be selected through a lottery system. This means it is not a first-come, first-served program, and each application will have an equal chance of being selected.

Local bike shops are assisting with the program. Those selected for a voucher would purchase their bike from a partnering supplier: Bingham Cyclery, Contender, Magnum, Rad Power Bikes, or Trek.

The application period is open now and will close on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time. Those selected by the lottery system will receive news about their voucher by July 31st.
